History of Baseball in Mexico
The heyday of the LMB came soon after World War II when it was able to convince MLB players to play for teams in Mexico rather than American clubs. This became a moot point in 1955 when the Mexican League became linked with MLB by receiving classification as a double-A league. Between 1967 and 2021, the Mexican League had triple-A classification, which is a testament to the high quality of play. However, the LMB went back to being an independent league in 2021 and now has no firm association with MLB.
LMB Schedule & Format
With two teams added before the 2024 season, there are now 20 teams in the Mexican League. Each team plays 120 games each during the regular season. The season typically starts in late March or early April and runs until September. Rather than the American League and the National League like in MLB, the LMB has a North Conference and a South Conference. The top six teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs, meaning 12 of the 20 teams in the Mexican League participate in the playoffs.
2024 Mexican League Season
The 2024 Mexican League Season opened on April 11 with the final game of the regular season being played on September 11. Former MLB stars like Robinson Cano, Leonys Martin, and Trevor Bauer have been among the standout players in the LMB this season.
Which Teams Play in LMB?

For the 2024 season, Pericos de Puebla are the reigning Mexican League champions, winning the title in 2023. However, Diablos Rojos del Mexico is the most successful team in the LMB with 16 championships and 17 runners-up seasons in its history. Tigres de Quintana Roo and Sultanes de Monterrey are also among the most successful teams in LMB history, winning 12 and 10 championships, respectively.
