Who Won the IPL in 2024?

Kolkata Knight Riders won the 2024 Indian Premier League to clinch their third IPL title, watched by millions on Star India and worldwide TV, where the legendary Ravi Shastri was a commentator. It’s not all about Indian players - Aussie pace bowler Mitchell Starc was named as player of the match as KKR romped to an eight-wicket victory, following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s disappointing 113 all out. Indian Premier League Schedule & Format

With ten franchise teams now involved in the IPL, there are two groups of five – Group A and Group B.

Each team plays twice against the four other teams in its group and once against the five teams in the other group. There is one extra game when a side must play its opposite number in the other group a second time (i.e., the team listed #1 in Group A will play the team listed #1 in Group B twice).

The top four teams face off in the playoffs, with the top two teams locking horns in Qualifier 1, with the winner automatically reaching the IPL final. The third and fourth-placed teams play in the Eliminator, with the winner then facing the losing team of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2, giving the loser of Qualifier 1 two bites at the cherry to reach the final.

IPL 2025 Dates

The IPL season usually runs from the last week of March until the end of May. It’s a high-octane season, with lots of action packed into a two-month window before the major summer/winter tests get underway in a different format of the game.

IPL 2025 Auction

In 2025, we will see a Mega Auction in the IPL. A Mega Auction is held once every three years and allows each team an auction purse to change their squad's composition. Each team can host up to 8 overseas players and assemble a squad of between 18 and 25 players.

Other rules relating to the 2025 Mega Auction include:

• IPL franchises can spend 30-40% of their budget on five players.

• Eight foreign players can be in each squad, with only four on the field at any time.

• Each franchise can hold onto five players as part of the IPL “right to match” policy.

• Each IPL team can spend up to INR 100 Crore at the Mega Auction.
